Legacy
The production of spirits started started in1855 and lasted until 1995 in Brenneriroa, Løten. It was a long and proud local tradition, so it was with awe and excitement the founders of Hedmark Alkemiske Destilleri AS decided to bring distilling back to this great region in the heart of Norway.
Based on local traditions, herbs, berries and spices, we haved introduced new spirits and revived old traditions.
As alchemists, we aim to create exceptional new brew and experiences for those who dare to parttake.

Our first Aquavit
Munnskjenk - The Cup-bearer
With Munnskjenk we wanted to rethink how aguavit is presented. Aquavit should have a character based on its origin. The taste should reflect the region in which it was produced, with local herbs and fruits as ingredients. Graphically, our label is dominated by an illustration of a potato to give homage to the potato spirit used in our aquavit - moreover, we are produly from the potato-region og Norway.
Our first Aquavit has clear notes from Hedmark – this fruitful region of the country. It has a full-bodied, fresh note of sitrus and caraway, and you can trace notes from the sherry caskets it has aged in. Rowanberries, anis and fennel are also present. Finally we added wild strawberries from Hedmark. The result is a well balanced aqauvit with an exceptional flavour and a long finish. We love it.
The name?
The cup-bearer (Munnskjenk) was a high ranking officer, or noble man, who worked at the royal courts to serve Kings and Queens good wine and drinks, and make sure they were not plotted against and poisoned. To live up to the name, we will take on the responsibility of developing high quality, interesting, and tasty spirits to give you splendid experiences.
Our first Aquavit was developed in close cooperation with Master Destiller and maker of excellent Gin, Stig Bareksten og OSS Kraft Distillery.
Together, our mission has been to create the ultimate aquavit with tastes that represent our region. Try it and decide if we hit the mark.
